When you are travelling with a larger group, you need accommodation with enough space to spend time together, sleep comfortably and simply relax. Our Traditional Finnish House in the village of Lokka offers exactly that: plenty of room, a cosy atmosphere, modern comforts and practical features that larger groups appreciate.
A House with a Story
Our Traditional Finnish House, also known as the Old Post House, once served as Lokka’s post office and Post Bank. Before 1968, postal vehicles travelled to the village via Vuotso to deliver the mail. The drivers stayed overnight in the house before returning to Sodankylä the following day.
The main bedroom was once used as accommodation for postal workers. Villagers gathered in the main living room to wait for the postal vehicle and catch up on local news. One of the rooms served as the Post Bank, where people could withdraw money and even receive their wages.
This kind of authentic history cannot be recreated in a new building. In the Old Post House, traces of the past can still be felt throughout the property, creating a warm and distinctive atmosphere.
Plenty of Space for Larger Groups
The house has five bedrooms, two of which are currently used for accommodation. The entire house can also be reserved for families, groups of friends, hunting parties or recreational and team days.
Full board, including meals and a heated sauna, can also be arranged on request.
The house includes a well-equipped shared kitchen, two toilets, a bathroom, a large wood-heated sauna, a washing machine, fast fibre-optic internet, a television in every room, a spacious yard and outdoor grill, as well as a heated garage with an electric vehicle charging point.

Practical Processing Facilities in the Yard
The grounds also include an approximately 50 m² processing building that can be used for a variety of purposes. It includes:
- A ceiling-mounted hoist for skinning moose
- Hot and cold running water and drainage
- A suitable area for cleaning and processing fish
- Two large freezers for storing game, fish and berries
- A vacuum sealer for packing game and fish
If your group plans to go berry picking, mushroom picking, fishing or hunting, the facilities make it easy to process and store your harvest or catch on site.
Activities Right from the Doorstep
You can head straight into nature from our yard without needing to drive anywhere first. Hiking routes begin nearby, cross-country skiing tracks are within easy reach in winter, and hunting grounds are close by.
The Lokka Reservoir is also nearby, offering excellent opportunities for fishing.
Guided activities can be arranged separately on request, including hiking and hunting trips. We have extensive local knowledge of Lapland’s wilderness, from professional fishing and hunting to everyday life in the region.

Art, Books and Space for Creativity
The Traditional Finnish House is also home to plenty of art and an extensive library. This makes it well suited to art retreats, workshops, training days and team events.
Catering can also be arranged separately for groups.

Give Yourself Enough Time – or Book the Whole House
Our accommodation in Lokka, Sodankylä, is located around 90 kilometres northeast of central Sodankylä and is reached along a narrow road. Rovaniemi is approximately 220 kilometres away.
Because of the distance, it is worth allowing enough time for your visit. Five days or a week gives you much more time to enjoy what you came north for: beautiful nature, space and peace.
